My Quilts - 2018
Circling the Drain
2018 I took a trip to Scandinavia in 2017 and was impressed to discover that every area of every city had their own distinctive manhole covers. I decided these utilitarian artifacts would make beautiful appliqué designs. When I returned to Seattle, I discovered the best one of all, just two blocks from my home! In my design, the water spirits and wild life are needle-turn appliqué and the gold waves are reverse appliqué. The word in the middle is "DRAIN".

No Birds in the Hand
2018 I have always wanted to do a tree of life quilt. The tree is an original design done entirely using needle turn applique. The birds in the tree are stuffed hand applique. The birds around the circle are origami doves which are folded from two squares of fabric fused together. There is a tiny glass eye added to each dove to keep the beak from unfolding.

Paschkis Solution
2018 I fell in love with these two sets of panels and bought both sets. Then, because they were slightly different sizes and I didn't want to cut them up I spent the next few years contemplating how to use them. This year I trimmed them all the same size, cut random width strips from my stash, randomly cut off sashes the size of the blocks and used a white square printed with musical notation at each sash intersection. Another retreat for the machine quilting and DONE. This year I met the designer of the fabric so I named the quilt after her and it was given as a baby quilt.

Seeking the Pearl of Great Wisdom
2018 Years ago at a quilt show I bought this koi stencil. A few years later at a show I bought oil paint sticks. This year they finally came together. The fabric on the edge is needle turn applique and the quilting is free motion machine. The thing in the center is a pearl.

Butterfly Dreams, 2018
Butterfly Dreams began at the Sisters quilt show in Oregon. I bought the central fabric at a going out of business sale on the edge of town just before getting on the Alki Tours bus to go home. The rest of the fabric is from my butterfly stash. The six central wedges didn't form a pleasant pattern that I was hoping for so I covered them up with trapunto air roots. The butterflies are all trapunto and needle turn applique with the largest one flying off the top of the quilt. The entire design seemed to spiral so I repeated that in the hand guided quilt design. 31"x32.5" $750
